The study found that the overall crime rate in the United States decreased by 7.2% in 2020, but some cities saw an increase in certain types of crime, such as homicide and car theft.

Memphis, Tennessee, was found to have the highest overall crime rate in the country, with a violent crime rate of 1,230 per 100,000 residents.

Detroit, MI, had the second-highest overall crime rate, with a violent crime rate of 1,119 per 100,000 residents.

Birmingham, AL, had the highest property crime rate in the country, with 8,142 property crimes per 100,000 residents.

The study also looked at factors such as poverty rates and unemployment rates, and found that cities with higher poverty and unemployment rates tended to have higher crime rates.

It's important to note that while these cities may have high crime rates, they also have vibrant communities and many positive attributes.

The study's authors hope that the data will help city leaders and law enforcement officials make informed decisions to address crime and improve safety in their communities.
